Man Accused of Murdering Rihanna’s Cousin Appears in Court
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — A 23-year-old man will reappear in court on January 31 after he was charged with the murder of the 21-year-old cousin of the Barbados born international singer, Rihanna, last month.
Shawayne Dashawn Williams was not required to plead to the indictable offence when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Fredericks in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
He is charged with murdering Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, who was shot several times as he walked through a track leading to his home on December 26.
His murder prompted Rihanna to call for an end to gun violence in her country where 30 murders, including 23 gun-related were recorded last year.
“RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms!” she wrote to her Instagram Tuesday. “Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!”
The 29-year-old singer ended her message by calling for an end to gun violence.
